Why I Paint Objects That Hold Stories

Some objects stay with us long after the people, places, or moments they belonged to have changed. A vase that’s moved through generations. A piece of fabric softened by years of touch. A flower picked on a day you never want to forget.

These are the things I return to again and again in my paintings not because they’re beautiful (though they are), but because they carry something deeper. They hold memory. They hold atmosphere. They hold the quiet, unspoken stories that shape who we are.

The Emotional Weight of Everyday Things

When my father passed, and when my mother‑in‑law’s belongings came into my hands, I realised how much of our emotional world is stored in the small, familiar objects we live alongside.

A jug on a shelf. A bowl that’s always been there. A flower that reminds you of someone you loved.

Painting these objects became a way of honouring the people who shaped me. A way of keeping them in the room. A way of saying: this mattered.

Still Life as a Conversation Across Time

Still life is often misunderstood as “things arranged on a table.” But for me, it’s a conversation between past and present, between memory and place, between the quiet corners of Yorkshire and the people who’ve lived within them.

I paint objects because they speak. Not loudly. Not dramatically. But with a soft, steady truth that feels more honest than anything else.

What I Hope You Feel When You Look at My Work

Calm. Warmth. A sense of belonging. A reminder that your own home is full of stories worth celebrating.

I want my paintings and the prints created from them to bring atmosphere into a room. To soften a space. To make a corner feel lived‑in, loved, and quietly meaningful.

About the New Print Collection (Launching 5 June)

This upcoming collection gathers together the objects that have shaped my life: inherited treasures, flowers gathered during moments of joy and grief, and the small domestic scenes that make Yorkshire feel like home.

Each print is created to bring memory, beauty, and emotional resonance into your space — something deeper than decoration, something that becomes part of your story too.

If you’d like early access to the collection, you can join the list below.
